Training for teaching staff
20. Which qualifications do the day care teachers hold?
Social-educational qualifications
The teachers working in the municipal child day care facilities have all undergone several years of social-educational training and hold at least qualifications as state-approved pre-school teachers, where appropriate also with additional remedial teaching qualifications, or corresponding university degrees in social or remedial education. As the municipal Child Day Care Agency for Dresden contributes to various model projects, the latest scientific developments are quickly implemented in the municipal day care facilities. If a facility offers places for more than 70 children, the director must hold a university degree in social education. Irrespective of this requirement, all directors must possess an additional qualification in line with a recommendation of the Saxon State Ministry for Social Affairs.
The above-mentioned qualifications are also standard for the teaching staff in the day care facilities of other welfare providers. Child minders without previous educational qualifications must complete a special training programme for prospective child minders before they are permitted to commence their work.
Further training and consultation
The Child Day Care Agency for Dresden offers teachers and child minders regular opportunities for further training and specialist consultation, irrespective of the welfare provider for whom they work. All staff are able to attend further training measures for at least five days each year.
Programme of continuous training
To ensure the quality of day care provided in Dresden, teachers are offered an annual further training programme geared to the latest developments in the education sciences. In addition, the various providers elaborate joint binding action strategies and standards. A number of internal and external specialist consultants provide assistance for the staff of all welfare providers. Working groups on a broad diversity of topics ensure fertile exchanges between all staff and help to promote a balanced quality of day care in the individual facilities.
