Media
Dresden is a city of the media industry, of IT research and of media culture.
Dresden saw the series-production of the first 35-mm camera and the invention of the Pentacon reflex camera.
Today, Dresden is among the most important German microelectronics locations. The leading-edge Athlon processor as well as 300-mm wafers are produced here.
The International Festival for Computer-aided Art CYNETart has taken place in Dresden every November since 1997. The media art festival attracts interdisciplinary artists and grips its audience with unusual performances.
The Trans-Media-Academy, which is being set up at Hellerau Festival Centre, will facilitate the exploration and realisation of audio-visual compositions as virtual walk-in rooms.
The Media Culture Centre Pentacon, founded in 1997, now offers courses in the fields of photography, sound broadcasting, television, multimedia and Internet to Dresden's citizens. They can produce their own radio and TV broadcasts with the help of modern digital equipment and specialist instructions. Even far beyond Saxony, the Media Culture Centre, which is funded by the Sächsische Landesmedienanstalt and the City of Dresden,is considered a model project aiming to increase media competence and creativity.
