Waste disposal fees

If you have large amounts of waste at short notice, you can use a 120-litre residual waste bag labelled „Landeshauptstadt Dresden, Abfallsack, Gebühr bezahlt“. This is available for ten euros from recycling centres, citizens' offices, local authorities and the Stadtreinigung Dresden GmbH (→ www.dresden.de/stadtplan/abfall). Place the filled waste bag (up to 25 kilograms) next to the residual waste container on the day it is emptied. Alternatively, the property owner can request an additional special emptying of the residual waste container. If the bin is not sufficient in the long term, the owner must request a larger or additional containern (→ www.dresden.de/abfallformulare). You can also ask whether more frequent emptying (change in collection cycle) would be possible.

Organic waste containers are generally emptied weekly for hygiene reasons. From January 2024, the fee per month and waste container will be:

When disposing of green waste at municipal recycling centres and green waste collection points (→ www.dresden.de/stadtplan/abfall) the following fees apply:

The municipal blue bins are free of charge.

You have already paid the costs for emptying the yellow bin/taking the yellow bags with you when you purchased the goods, so no further fees apply.

According to the Packaging Act, the collection and recycling of lightweight packaging is the responsibility of so-called dual systems and not the state capital of Dresden.

In the city of Dresden, this is currently the dual system "Reclay Systems GmbH". This has awarded the disposal services for the period 2023 - 2025 to the company Nehlsen Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG via a tendering process.

You can have four cubic meters of bulky waste per household per half year collected from your home (delivery on the street). Registration takes place via the online form at www.dresden.de/sperrmuell. The waste disposal company commissioned by the city will inform you of the collection date by post. This is usually within four weeks. Alternatively, you can request an express collection within three working days. The collection of bulky waste from the apartment or basement is an additional service provided by the waste disposal company for which you will receive a separate invoice. From 2025, sales tax will be shown separately when bulky waste is collected. If you deliver the bulky waste yourself to a municipal recycling center, the disposal is free of charge (note the amount you dispose of).

Once per household and every six months, you can have large old electrical appliances (from 50 centimeters edge length) picked up from your home (delivery on the street). Report this using the online form www.dresden.de/abfallformulare. The waste disposal company commissioned by the city will inform you of the collection date by post. This is usually within four weeks. Alternatively, you can request an express collection within three working days. When you have small old electrical appliances picked up, you can bring them along free of charge. Collection from the apartment or basement is an additional service provided by the waste disposal company for which you will receive a separate invoice. From 2025, sales tax will be shown separately when the items are picked up. There is no charge for handing in old electrical appliances at the city's recycling centers. Paper, cardboard and glass packaging waste can be placed in the recycling containers. There are currently over 640 recycling container locations in the city area.

The pollutant mobile accepts pollutants free of charge on its tours in spring and autumn. Pollutants can also be disposed of free of charge at recycling centers (except Leuben and Loschwitz). Up to 25 liters will be accepted, whereby the original filling quantities indicated on the packaging are added together.

Over the New Year, containers for Christmas trees will be available at more than 110 locations.

Well-preserved furniture and second-hand goods can be picked up by appointment from the social furniture service. The Exchange and Giveaway Market can be used to give away, swap or post wanted advertisements for everyday items.

There are numerous free disposal options for waste and recyclables at the Recycling centers and waste collection points in the state capital of Dresden.
