Semiconductor technology 4.0
Infineon
Semiconductors are used in many areas of Industry 4.0 – from data processing to chip-based security solutions. At its 20-year-old semiconductor factory in Dresden, Infineon is focusing on modern robotics solutions. Despite the factory’s age, the company has now managed to automate 92 per cent of its processes there.
Over 200 robots assist the approximately 2000 staff at the Dresden base, which produces 300-mm and 200-mm wafers – semiconductor workpieces. For example, some 100 robots supply the machines with new wafers or collect processed workpieces. Most of the robots are run on tracks, while some are units that navigate their way autonomously. Another highlight of the Infineon robotics solutions are four autonomous measurement robots that, among other things, use gas sensors to monitor air quality during production.
In order to keep co-creating the digital future for industrial processes and cobots, Infineon is placing greater focus on co-operations with startups – including in the high-tech hub of Dresden.
