Neustadt Market Hall

A modern shopping experience in a hall bathed in light with wrought-iron railings, ornamented iron staircases and lamps. The covered market hall "Neustädter Markthalle", which first opened in 1899, was reopened in November 2000 and presented to the public after a thorough and careful period of renovation. Many curious inhabitants of Dresden did not want to miss the festive inauguration of 'their' hall.
For the older people the visit of the renovated building on Hauptstrasse brought back memories of the days when they had traditionally gone shopping there decades ago. Not surprising that »Do you remember...?« was among the questions most often asked. For the younger visitors the meeting with the Neustädter Markthalle turned out to be an architectural surprise.
