Regional services

Destinations in the immediate and wider surroundings of the city can be reached either by suburban railway or by buses operated by the company Regionalverkehr Dresden (RVD).
The latter serves the broad region to the south and south-west of Dresden, as well as parts of the administrative districts of Meissen and Kamenz.

The Upper Elbe transport network (VVO), of which the Dresden transport corporation is also a member, coordinates the services of the regional transport providers. In this way, it has been possible to establish integrated services and a single, common fare system for the whole region. With just one ticket, passengers are able to use the whole dense network of transport services between Lusatia and the Erzgebirge Mountains.
That does not only include rapid journeys from A to B – you can also enjoy a ride on one of the narrow-gauge railways which steam at their own leisurely pace through the picturesque countryside.
