General Administration at the Meissen University of Applied Sciences and Training Centre
This course in General Administration offers various points of entry into regional and municipal administration, along with further career opportunities at various other institutions dealing with public services. Students on this course become familiar with laws and other legal provisions. They also work in practice with the fundamentals of business administration. Examples of their fields of work include:
- Designing cost-effective, citizen-friendly work processes,

Social Administration at the Meissen University of Applied Sciences and Training Centre
This course deals with topics related to social policy. Students on this course need good communication skills and must enjoy working with a wide range of people. Examples of the fields of work include:
- Benefits under the law on social assistance (Book XII of the German Social Code, SGB) and basic income support for jobseekers (SGB II),
- Benefits under the Federal Parental Allowance Act and the State Child-Rearing Allowance Act,
- Determination of disabilities according to Book IX of the Social Code (SGB IX),
- Benefits under the Act on the State Allowance for the Blind,
- Implementation of child and youth welfare policy.

This field of study deals with social work, and especially counselling and supporting people in difficult situations in life. The key topics include:
Counselling skills
This course teaches the basics of social work counselling.
- Clinical social work
Clinical social work involves learning about the symptoms of mental illness, along with issues related to addiction and dependency.
- Child safety threats
One topic addressed is the role played by the youth welfare department and how risk is assessed in the case of threats to a child’s safety.
The City Administration is a public authority which offers practical training in the fields listed above. Applicants must have confirmation of a university place to sign a training contract with the City Administration.
