BioInnovationsZentrumDresden lays foundation stone for new "BioZ 2" building
Around a week ago, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new technology and innovation centre in Dresden. The "BioZ 2" will have new laboratories, workshops and office spaces by the end of 2025. These are also urgently needed: The life sciences sector is booming in Dresden. This is another reason why the new building was partly financed by GRW infrastructure funding.
More than 4,100 square metres of rentable space for the life sciences sector in Dresden: the new "BioZ 2" building of the BioInnovationsZentrumDresden will provide a new home for numerous companies. The foundation stone was laid recently. The centre should be completed by the end of 2025. Work on the building shell began in November 2023. The expansion comes around 20 years after the opening of the BioInnovationsZentrumDresden (BioZ) at Tatzberg.
All in all, the new building will cost around 18 million euros. Part of this – totalling 6.7 million euros – will be financed from GRW infrastructure funding. Further subsidies will be provided in the form of external funding. The investment comes at the right time: the capacities of the existing centre at Tatzberg are fully utilised. The laboratories, workshops, clean rooms and offices for start-ups and growing SMEs on four floors will provide the industry with urgently needed space. These are ideal conditions for Dresden to expand its status as a hotspot for life sciences. Another bonus is the immediate proximity to the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital.
TechnologieZentrumDresden GmbH supports 539 companies from the sector and currently accommodates 190 tenants in the existing "BioZ". A total of around 6,200 jobs have been directly created by the establishment of the diverse companies.
