Museums in Dresden
Carl Maria von Weber Museum
A visit to Dresden-Hosterwitz is ideal for an extensive music walk. The Carl Maria von Weber Museum is located not far from Pillnitz Palace. The composer and his wife discovered this typical winegrower's house on a walk in the spring of 1818. Weber stayed here with his family in the summer of 1818/19 and 1822 to 1824 and received numerous colleagues and friends here. The opera “Euryanthe” and the “Aufforderung zum Tanz” were composed in this house. In the former living and working rooms, musical scores and pictorial and text documents bear witness to Carl Maria von Weber's work and influence in Dresden. Special exhibitions provide an insight into special topics in Dresden's music history, and the exhibitions at the Carl Maria von Weber Museum are expected to be closed until 2026 for restoration work to bring them into line with monument conservation requirements. During this time, all events will take place in the Kügelgenhaus - Museum of Dresden Romanticism.
