Pupils exchange programme

Many children want to go abroad while they are at school, but are put off by the efforts this requires. Help is at hand, however: the Mayor of Dresden’s pupils exchange programme offers extensive support with finding a partner school and ensuring that funding is sufficient. Fixed sums are available for the cost of travel, accommodation and incidental expenses. The programme is aimed mainly at Dresden’s general secondary schools, vocational schools and SEN schools.

Advantages for children and parents

  • Go away abroad
  • Meet other schoolchildren
  • Interesting insights into a foreign country
  • Practise and improve language skills
  • Own expenses minimal

Advantages for teachers

  • Help finding a partner school
  • Easy to apply for funding
  • Simple cost calculation (only a report and list of participants required)

Prerequisites

  • School from Dresden, priority given to general secondary, SEN or vocational schools
  • Exchange with a partner school abroad, e.g. from one of Dresden’s twin cities
  • Joint project with partner school (not only tourist activities)
  • Accommodation with host families (if not possible, in youth hostel with exchange students)
  • Exchange lasts about 5 days
  • Pupils stay in touch later
  • Applications submitted at least one month before the project starts
